Ballochmill Road, Rutherglen

As strategic locations go, Eastfield Developments takes some beating. This newly completed industrial estate sits right on the doorstep of one of just two proposed junctions for the M74 extension.

George McFadyen, who owns Eastfield Developments with his wife Janet, was well aware of the advantages of the site in Ballochmill Road, Rutherglen, when he bought the land. “I have always been in the Cambuslang and Rutherglen area so I already new about the transport links,” he says. “It’s an excellent central location whether you are going to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Greenock, Carlisle or Hamilton.”

Work has just finished on the development which includes three buildings offering a total of approximately nine units. It is built to high specifications and is flexible enough to suit a range of industrial and service uses. Single storey with a high roof, there is plenty of entrance room for trucks and lorries loading or unloading. Alternatively, tenants could chose to add a second floor and partition the area depending on their needs.

George originally bought the estate in December 1998 for Strathclyde Scaffolding - a company owned by him and his wife - which supplies scaffolding to the building trade. However, he soon realised the potential to develop and rent the site. Substantial funding assistance for the £1 million project came from South Lanarkshire Council, which supported the development as it improves the range of premises available to businesses in the area. Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire also provided funding.

“The Council has been a big help,” says George. “Any time I’ve hit a problem they have been very supportive, throughout the project.”

Units at the industrial estate are now available for rent through letting agent Colin Ely and Company on 0141 221 5233.
