JobRotation a success

IT’S proving a successful first year for Lanarkshire JobRotation. The scheme was set up in March last year to encourage companies to offer their staff greater training opportunities.

Delivered through the Workers’ Educational Association, JobRotation helps with the cost and organisation of training existing employes. It will also supply and train JobRotation trainees to act as cover, subsidising their wages when they are with the company.

More than 140 employees from throughout Lanarkshire have now registered, far exceeding its first year target, with 24 companies benefiting. JobRotation has also held 11 training events on subjects including first aid, elementary food hygiene and computing skills.

JobRotation is funded by South and North Lanarkshire Councils, Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire and is receiving £745,000 from the European Social Fund through the Scottish Objective Three Operational Programme 2000-06 over three years.

Farm business development scheme

Fourteen projects in West Central Scotland have received over £200,000 in grant aid under the Farm Business Development Scheme (FBDS).

FBDS provides financial assistance to farming families who want to diversify into new ventures - within or outwith agriculture; on or off the farm. The grant can be for an entirely new activity or to expand or improve an existing diversification.

Marion Currie, Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department Project Officer based at South Lanarkshire Council said: “There has been a high level of interest from farmers and their families in the new scheme.

“Considerable time and effort has gone into developing these proposals and they will help kick start a wide range of worthwhile projects throughout the area.”

She is now looking forward to more innovative applications. See Rural business support

The closing dates for receipt of applications in 2002 are April 30, August 31 and October 31. The Farm Business Development Scheme is open to farmers and their immediate families who have been actively involved in agriculture for at least two years. Marion can be contacted on 01698 453629 or 07876 034627.
