South Lanarkshire Council has appointed the Mackenzie Partnership as coordinating consultants for the proposed Cambuslang Training & Enterprise Centre.

The consultants will coordinate the detailed design works on the project.

The new centre, which will be situated in Cambuslang shopping precinct, is part of the regeneration of the town and is expected to cost around £1.4 million. The Council is planning to put forward £450,000 from its Capital Programme for the project and is in the process of applying for ERDF funding of £750,000. Discussions are also ongoing with Lanarkshire Development Agency regarding gap funding of £200,000.

The project will also include the refurbishment of part of the precinct and will tie in with the proposed environmental works for the area as well as the proposed development of a One-Stop Shop.

Councillor Jim Daisley, chair of the Committee, said: This is a very important project for the Council and for the people of Cambuslang. It will not only provide quality training facilities for local unemployed people and a place where new companies can get help and advice, but will breathe life into Cambuslang precinct.

“The decision to appoint the Mackenzie Partnership, who were the lead consultants on the feasibility study, was taken to get the project design done quickly. I am keen to see this centre up-and-running as soon as possible – it’s a much-needed facility in area and, I’m sure, will be welcomed by local people.”
