New Deal Offers Hope for Unemployed

South Lanarkshire Economic Development has been chosen to run the wage subsidy element of a New Deal pilot programme in the area.

The New Deal 25+ Pilot Programme hopes to encourage employers to take on unemployed people aged 25 and over who have been unemployed for 18 months or more

In return, the company will receive £75 (for a full-time post) or £50 (part-time) wage subsidy per week for up to 26 weeks.

The pilot programme is taking place in eight areas throughout Lanarkshire including East Kilbride, Lanark, Cambuslang and Rutherglen. Only unemployed people living in these areas will be eligible for the scheme.

Stephen McCarron, the economic development officer in charge of the programme, said: "This is a great way for employers to take on new staff while giving long term unemployed people the chance of permanent paid employment."

You won't have to organise it yourself. Just give me a call and I'll take you through everything you need to know to take part in the programme." For more information, contact Stephen on 01698 455133.
