New Business Units

East Kilbride is to get a new 10,000 sq ft business unit thanks to South Lanarkshire Council with support from the European Community.

The Council is looking to build the new unit and improve the access into the Langlands business park.

The project will cost £1.337m, £481,000 of which will come from European Regional Development Fund grant aid, and will further enhance the quality of this important business park in the town.

Apart from the new business unit, the project will also create up to five fully serviced plots which the Council will either lease or sell to businesses looking to construct units of around 7,500 to 15,000 sq ft.

Around 40 new jobs and 15 temporary jobs are expected to be created during the first phase stage, with a the potential for 200 jobs and more than £5m in private investment to be created once the site is fully developed.

Councillor Eddie McAvoy, leader of South Lanarkshire Council, said: "The Council is very aware of the needs of local businesses. Units of this type are much in demand in the East Kilbride area and we are confident that, once built, it will be snapped up very quickly.

"We are pleased to be involved in this project, particularly as it is expected to bring new jobs and encourage private investment in the area."

South Lanarkshire Council recently invested £170,000 in Langlands by building a new road to facilitate development of another plot within the park.

The new road allowed access to the site of the new Bovill & Boyd industrial unit and negotiations are currently ongoing with two other companies to complete the development of the site.
