Hamilton's Quarry Street has been highly commended in a national environmental award scheme.
The streetscape, which was designed by South Lanarkshire Council's Roads and Transportation Services on behalf of the Hamilton Ahead Initiative picked up the accolade in the recent Environmental Regeneration Awards.
In their summing up, the judges described Quarry Street as "a robustly constructed urban landscape incorporating attractive sculpture elements and street furniture. Popular and well used by local people.

This is the second time the street has been recognised in this way. In February last year, Quarry Street won the Royal Town Planning Institute's award for planning achievement ('Enhancement of the Public Realm' category.)
Councillor Eddie McAvoy, leader of South Lanarkshire Council, said: "We are delighted that once again the quality of the Quarry Street redevelopment project has been recognised in a national award scheme.
"Council officers from both South Lanarkshire Development Partnerships and Roads & Transportation Services put in a lot of time and effort into ensuring this project was of a high quality and paid off. Quarry Street is an area we can all be proud of." Councillor Eddie McAvoy, leader of South Lanarkshire Council
The £2.5 million project was funded by the Council, Lanarkshire Development Agency and the Strathclyde European Partnership.
Quarry Street was one of nine projects short-listed for the award and was the only project to be Highly Commended. The Supreme Award went to Culross Community Garden in Fife.
The Environmental Regeneration Award is a joint initiative by Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Natural Heritage. The award was created in 1994 in recognition of the increasing importance of environmental and landscape projects in individual areas throughout Scotland. Projects are considered on their environmental, social and economic impact.
