Small Business Gateway?

Don't be confused by new branding!

Small Business Gateway

You would have had to have been on Mars not to have noticed there's something a bit different about our local enterprise trusts.

The Scottish Executive has, in its infinite wisdom, decided that businesses are getting confused by too many names. So, it's out with the old and in with the new......names that is.

Now known as Small Business Gateways, the former Hamilton Enterprise Development Company, East Kilbride Business Centre, Rutherglen & Cambuslang Enterprise and Clydesdale Development Company are continuing to help small businesses grow and flourish. Lanarkshire Development Agency has also undergone a name change, it's now Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire.

At the launch of the Small Business Gateway in July 2000, Henry McLeish, Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning, said: "One of the most common complaints from the small business community has been that advice, information and assistance is different all over the country and, as a result, confusing and difficult to access."

"The Small Business Gateway will put an end to these difficulties by introducing a higher quality range of services that are standardised throughout the whole Scottish Enterprise area."

Ian Livingstone, chair of Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire, said: "The Small Business Gateway addresses many of the key points our small business customers regularly raise with us."

"I'm confident this new service will bring key benefits to the thousands of small firms across Scotland which account for more than 85% of the country's company base."

The Small Business Gateway will help anyone starting up a new company to gain advice, information and training. It will support entrepreneurs and help existing firms develop their businesses. General support and advice will also be offered.
