Now open for business:

A new company and the near completion of the first phase of a three-phase property development project........it can mean only one thing! Russell Construction & Commercial Properties Ltd (RCCP) has completed Murray Court.

Sister company to Blantyre's Russell Print, RCCP is the driving force behind the new 18,950 sq ft industrial unit complex at Hillhouse Industrial Estate, Hamilton.

Comprising 14 high quality starter units for light industrial use, Murray Court was built with assistance from South Lanarkshire Council, Small Business Gateway Hamilton and Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire.

In fact, it was the Council's Economic Development & Estates team who helped pull the project together and securedfunding from Hamilton North Area Social Inclusion Partnership and Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire.

Each unit is 1,000 sq ft with a mezzanine upper level for offices and storage and, as an added bonus, around 50 jobs were created in the first phase of the development.

And that's not all the good news! The units have proven so popular that owner Billy Russell is confident he and son, Billy Jnr, will be able to secure funding for phases two and three of the development.

Billy Snr said: "The whole idea behind this development is that the units should be of a high quality. We could have built basic units and easily leased them, but that wasn't what we wanted to do. We wanted to create units we could be proud of, something that would attract customers, make them think that they would like to move their business there."

And, that's exactly what's happening, the units are being snapped up by various types of companies including electronics, dental, delivery services and a plastics business.

He added: "Again, I can't thank the Council's Economic Development & Estates Team enough for all their help. They were brilliant, very positive and very very helpful from day one. Nothing was a problem for them and that made the project so much easier to get off the ground."
